A small desire to travel by air landed a medical student from Ranchi in trouble on Thursday. He was caught impersonating another student during an entrance test in New Delhi on Wednesday.
Sources said that the student, identified as Manoj Kumar, was convinced by his seniors who promised to fund his journey to Delhi by flight.
The entrance examination was for admission to engineering, medical and agricultural courses in various colleges in Kerala.
The test was conducted at the Kerala Education Society Senior Secondary School near K G Marg in New Delhi.
“Kumar was caught by an invigilator during routine check in the examination hall. The staff immediately informed the police and he confessed. During interrogation, he told us about his desire to travel by flight,” a senior police officer said.
Kumar, a native of Siwan in Bihar, was appearing on behalf of candidate Sharon Shakeer of Karol Bagh in central Delhi.
The exam is conducted for three days, April 24 to April 26, and on Thursday the students were appearing in physics and chemistry papers.
A case under various sections has been registered at the Tilak Marg police station.
