Seven people, including a pharmacist-cum-storekeeper, were arrested by the Crime Branch for their alleged involvement in a racket involving the siphoning-off of medicines from CGHS dispensaries and central Delhi’s Ganga Ram Hospital, the police said.

The arrested have been identified as Rajender Chauhan, Vivek Singh, Vijay Ahuja, Atul Jain, Sachin Kumar, Hardip Singh and Satish Kathuria.

According to sources, the gang decided to add Ganga Ram Hospital to their list because of its reputation.

Among the seized medicines, estimated to be worth Rs 30 lakh, a substantial percentage is of expensive drugs that are used to treat cancer.

During interrogation, Vivek disclosed that he had procured CGHS medicines from one Hardeep Singh before supplying them to three chemists operating from north Delhi’s Bhagirath Place. On December 7, the shops were raided and a huge quantity of medicines meant for CGHS supply were seized.
