In a late-night chase, the police’s newly procured Emergency Response Vehicles (ERVs) came good and helped in catching two carjackers who had fled with a call centre vehicle in RK Puram area.

One of the alleged carjackers is a boxing champion and the other is an actor who plays a negative role in an upcoming movie ‘Ghost’, police said.

Around 1:30am on Saturday, the police received a complaint about two persons who had fled with a car after forcing out its passengers near the Munirka flyover.

“At the same time, a message with the description of the robbed vehicle was flashed and all the pickets, patrolling and ERV staffers were alerted,” Chhaya Sharma, DCP (south) said.

Soon an ERV intercepted the robbed Santro car near a CNG pump in RK Puram and apprehended both the men. “Manish Upadhyay (23), an actor, and his boxer-friend Mohit Tokas (28), a Delhi University student, were arrested with the car they had stolen,” Sharma added.

The victim Jogesh Pal told the police that he works as a cab driver in Bank of America’s call centre at SEZ Dundahera in Gurgaon’s Sector-21.

“Around 1 am, he along with a guard Jaiveer reached near Kapoor Hospital in Munirka

to drop the last female passenger. The guard accompanied

the woman staffer to her house while Pal waited for him in the cab,” Sharma further said.

While Pal was inside, two youths came and asked him to get out of the cab. Pal, however, did not lower down the window panes.

When Jaiveer returned, one of the men caught him from behind and forced Pal to open the car’s door. They then bundled the two in the car.

“On the way, they asked them to hand over whatever cash they had. Pal gave R20 and Jaiveer gave R100. They dumped the two under the Munirka Flyover and fled away with the car,” Sharma added.

Tokas is pursuing his graduation from a prestigious DU college. He is a medal-winner in National Boxer Championship. Upadhyay is an aspiring model and TV artist and is starring in an upcoming movie ‘Ghost’.
