Some of the women councillors elected at the recently-held Delhi Municipal Corporation elections (MCD) in the city, are becoming popular not just for winning, but also for their sartorial choices. While some want to keep their style statement simple, there are others who wouldn’t mind wearing western wear to work. HT City takes a look at some of these stylish ladies and decodes their fashion choices.

Prerna Singh, 27
Ward no 74, Inderlok Colony
What are you most comfortable wearing?
Jeans with a shirt or a T-shirt

Your favourite wardrobe labels?
Levis for denims and Mango for T-shirts. I also love Van Heusen for formal wear.

Favourite restaurant?
Karim’s in Jama Masjid and Bercos for Chinese food.

Would you wear western clothes when you’re out on official duty?
I won’t mind wearing a pair of jeans that can be teamed up with a long T-shirt or kurti. As long as it is decent, there is no harm in wearing western wear.

Things you never leave your house without?
My cell phone and hand sanitizer.

What is your style statement?
I like to keep it simple.

No. I like to dress up professionally because I think clothes easily relate you to your profession.

Things you never leave your house without?

My mangalsutra, lipstick and perfume.

Your style statement?

I dress up smartly for official duty and in a funky way when I go out with family and friends.

Generally, I wear salwar kameez when I am out on official work. But I won’t mind wearing western wear as long as it is comfortable. In western wear, I’d wear jeans with kurtis or long T-shirts, which I’ll team up with a scarf.

What is your style statement?

Stylish and comfortable clothes. Don’t wear something in which you will feel awkward, even if it’s the most glamorous outfit ever created.

Who is your style icon?

I don’t follow anybody’s style but I love Neeta Ambani’s sense of dressing. She wears beautiful salwar suit that she carries with elegance.

Amrita Dhawan, 27
Ward number 116, Vikaspuri East
What are you most comfortable wearing?

While at work, churidars with cotton kurtas. Otherwise cotton trousers and pants with cotton T-shirts.

Your favourite wardrobe labels?
Benetton, Tommy Hilfiger. I also love shopping at Sarojini Nagar and Janpath.

Favourite restaurant?
Italian restaurant Earth in Gurgaon, Bukhara, in ITC and Taste of China in Janpath.

Would you wear western clothes when youre out on official duty?
Why not? Trousers with good formal shirts are great for official duty. We need to change the psychology of people. It’s an individual choice and there is no harm in wearing western wear.

neetu chaudhary, 27
Ward number 208, Sarita Vihar
What are you most comfortable wearing?

I prefer to team up cotton kurtis with churidars. They are comfortable and look elegant.

Your favourite wardrobe labels?
I love to buy ethnic wear from Fab India.

Favourite restaurant?
I love going to Gulati at Pandara road. Another favourite is Le Meridien Hotel. I love their various restaurants.

Would you wear western clothes when you’re out on official duty?
I can never wear western clothes on official duty. It does not make sense to wear them because I really won’t be comfortable.
