Curious about how Santa lives, what he eats and how old is he? Here are excerpts from our chit-chat with the one and only real Santa Claus, who had flown down to Delhi on Friday, all the way from his Finnish village, Rovaniemi, in Lapland.
Why is Santa so fat? What does he eat? Why doesn’t he gym?
Santa eats all kind of food. He is quite old you see, so he can’t gym.
Somehow people associate only Christmas with me, but I am always with them, all through the year.
How is Santa’s village and house different from other places on earth?
My village, Rovaniemi, is in the Arctic Circle. When I am not touring the world, I spend time every day in my village to take care of my mission in life — to enhance the well-being of children and the kindness of grown-ups.
My home is open for all. If you cannot meet me, then you can write to me. I have my Post Office, where my elves are busy processing requests and wishes from children and adults from all over the world!
We’ve always been seeing this cuddly old fellow for ages! How old is Santa?
Last time I was counting my age, I lost count after 315 years... Some say I am 600 years old. I don’t remember anymore.
Is there never summer time in your village? Else, why do you always wear this thick warm red jacket?
In my home town, Rovaniemi, we get sunshine for only 70 days during the summer. It’s called the period of Midnight Sun! That’s when I take off my warm jacket and wear my white shirt, and work and relax outside in the sun!
What gift does Santa want for himself in Christmas?
The biggest gift Santa can have is to see happy faces around him.
