Any construction or repair work being carried out by the public works department will now have a board, declaring the date of starting and expected date of completion of the project.
Public works department secretary Nutan Guha Biswas said a note has been sent to all engineers to ensure that the people are informed of the time the department may take to complete a particular work.
Once all PWD projects have such boards, the department will request the chief secretary to make it mandatory for all civic and construction agencies to put up such signage at the construction site. “Though we are not carrying out any major construction work in the city, the engineers have been told to put up information boards, where even minor repair works are being done. People must know when would particular work complete. We must learn from the Delhi Metro,” Biswas said.
PWD engineers accept that some projects take longer than the estimated time to get ready. “There have been instances when a repair work affects the traffic movement and residents come and ask us when are we likely to complete it. Boards with complete information will really help the public,” said a PWD engineer.
