A major mishap was averted at the Rithala Metro station when two trains came on one track from opposite directions on Monday afternoon. Metro services on the Shahdara and Rithala line were affected for over 15 minutes at the station.

According to officials of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), after one metro train was already at the platform, a go-ahead signal for a train coming from the Shahdara side
was given.

“The go-ahead signal for the metro train going towards Rithala was given even though a train was already standing at the Rithala station. Both the trains came face to face at the crossover. The situation took 15 minutes to normalise,” a DMRC spokesperson said. One metro trip from Rithala to Shahdara was cancelled.

Commuters, however, faced a lot of problems at various railways stations. “Since there was no metro train, the platform of Rohini East station was full to its capacity. We were not allowed to enter the station. I took an auto to come to my CP office,” said Rashmi Khanna, an advertising executive.
