The civil construction of phase 3 of Delhi Metro —months behind schedule — is finally going to start with the digging of Janpath road in the second week of November.
Earlier, the Delhi Metro had planned to start the construction on the four proposed corridors under phase 3 in February-March 2011 and complete it by 2016. But the corporation got clearance from the group of ministers only in August. Next two months, the corporation remained busy in completing the preparatory works, said officials.
A station will be constructed at Janpath, and Central Secretariat and Mandi House will be connected through tunnels. Mandi House Metro station will be converted as a twin station.
This corridor will have seven stations. Tendering process for Janpath and Mandi House is over and work has been awarded to the concerned players.
According to DMRC, tenders for Delhi Gate, Jama Masjid, Lal Quila and Kashmere Gate have been floated but they are yet to be opened.
DMRC will start construction work on the 4.48 km elevated Jahangirpuri-Badli corridor in a few months.
