Following a spate of complaints about commuters making return rides on the same token, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has launched check squads. The aim is to deter such method of travelling and provide hassle-free service.

“We have registered a number of complaints have been registered about passengers travelling in a direction for which they were not entitled. For example, a passenger who buys a token for Vishwavidyalaya but boards the train going towards Central Secretariat and then comes back in the same train to go to Vishwavidyalaya. To prevent such incidents, six checking teams of customer relation assistants, junior station controllers and assistant station controllers have been constituted,” said Anuj Dayal, DMRC spokesperson.

These teams, with 10 members each are named Alpha, Beta, Gama, Delta, Pie and Toe. The teams have been deputed at terminal stations of all lines, especially Central Secretariat, Noida City Centre, Anand Vihar, Dilshad Garden and Rithala Metro stations, where maximum number of such cases are reported, said DMRC officials.

The teams have been given Portable Ticket decoders, which enable them to decode the passenger tickets. If a passenger is found travelling on the same token, the team would then impose a fine of Rs. 50.

The DMRC, since launching the campaign three days ago, has reportedly penalised many such passengers.
