Two bike-borne assailants allegedly targeted the wife of a personal secretary of a Minister of State, a mere half a kilometre from Parliament House in New Delhi on Thursday morning, police said.
"The incident occurred at 8am when the victim, identified as MB Laxmi, was crossing the road with her two children near the Reserve Bank of India Building. Laxmi is the wife of DN Sharma, personal secretary to A Sai Prathap, minister of state for heavy industries," said a senior police officer investigating the incident.
According to police, the Sharmas are currently residing at Vithal Bhai Patel House.
"She was going to drop one of her kids to school, when she was targeted by two unidentified assailants riding a black Bajaj Pulsar motorbike. In her complaint, Laxmi has stated that she was crossing the road when the assailants, who were wearing helmets, snatched her chain," the officer said.
Police said the incident came to light after the victim telephoned her husband and narrated the entire incident. He, in turn, made a PCR call. "As soon as we received the call, an immediate checking operation was initiated throughout the entire district. Barricades were put up and all two-wheelers, especially Bajaj Pulsar motorcycles, were checked and their riders frisked," said the officer.
Police said the operation was in force for several hours but they were unable to zero in on the culprits."We are examining CCTV footage derived from cameras installed in the entire area where the incident occurred. However, we are yet to get any specific clue about the assailants. A case of snatching has been registered and investigations are on," he added.
