An eyewitness claimed the Swift Dzire car, which crashed into the Honda City, had a young boy at the wheels. The boy was later identified as Ajay, the 15-year-old son of Mohan Kumar, who died in the accident. But the police maintained that Kumar was driving and his son was sitting on the other seat.

"The man died before we could take him out of the car. A young boy was sitting on the driver's seat and had serious head injuries but was conscious," said Arun Kumar, an eyewitness to the accident.

He said the impact of collision was such that the Honda city swerved towards the right, making way for the other car that dragged ahead for around 50 metres. "Kumar’s (48) wife and his other son, who is an engineering student, were sent to their native village in Hisar early in the morning," said Mukesh Sharma, Kumar's friend.

The other victim, Sonia Sethia was being driven back in a Honda city to her house in New Friends Colony from Gulmohar Park after a late night dinner. "She was being dropped in her friend's car and was sitting in the back seat. We received a call at around 3am saying that she has met with an accident," said a family friend.
