A three-and-a-half-year-old girl was found killed near the railway tracks in Amar Colony area of southeast Delhi on Saturday morning.
The girl, identified as Shanno, had gone missing on Friday night and police are suspecting sexual assault on her before murder. She was first strangulated then stoned to death.
“The body of Shanno was recovered on Saturday morning after we received a missing complaint from her parents. Her parents had informed us that she was playing outside the house when someone took her on the pretext of buying chocolates,” said a senior police officer requesting anonymity.
The victim is a resident of Indira Colony in the JJ
Cluster of Srinivaspuri and was staying with her parents. Her father works as a sweeper in the nearby New Friends Colony area.
The police said that the killer hit her with a stone and there were no clothes on the body when it was recovered.
“She had suffered head injuries and we are suspecting sexual assault,” said Ajay Chaudhry, additional commissioner of police (southeast).
The minor’s body has been sent for post-mortem examination and the report is awaited. A case of murder has been registered at the Srinivaspuri police station and further investigations are on.
