It was a miraculous escape for nearly 10 labourers who were working at a Rapid Metro construction site in Gurgaon on Monday. Around 4pm, a part of the under-construction maintenance depot of the Rapid Metro collapsed.
The damaged part remained suspended about 15 metres above the ground.
One person received minor injuries in the incident when he came down with the part. He was pulled up by his fellow workers, eyewitnesses said.
The maintenance depot is being constructed in front of building number 6 at the DLF Cyber City between the Rapid Metro pillar numbers 158 and 156.
The damage could have been more had the floor fallen down completely. Luckily, the area where the construction of the depot was being carried out was barricaded and there was no vehicular or pedestrian movement. The Rapid Metrorail Gurgaon Limited (RMGL) blamed the contractor for the incident.
Sanjiv Rai, MD RMGL said, “It seems that the contractor did not follow the quality guidelines while casting this piece of concrete portion,” adding that work on this site would remain suspended for a few days.
