The body of a 30-year-old man, who went missing from his residence in south Delhi’s Pushp Vihar on Monday, was found near a village on the outskirts of Bulandshahr district in UP, police said on Friday.
“The victim has been identified as Sanjay Kumar Singh, who ran a marriage bureau in the Pushp Vihar area. He was reported missing when he didn’t return to his residence in sector 3 on Monday,” said a senior police officer. According to police, they were approached after he didn’t return home till late on March 7.
“Singh used to stay with his brother and sister-in-law. They tried contacting him when he didn’t return home at his usual time on Monday. The couple lodged a missing persons’ report with us after they couldn’t reach him on his phone and feared for the worst on Tuesday morning,” the officer said.
Police said a team was dispatched to Bulandshahr following a tip-off that Singh could be there.
“On Thursday, a team, accompanied by the family members of the deceased, recovered a body from a village in Bulandshehar. The body was identified as that of Singh. The victim’s mobile also helped locate his body. It was brought to Delhi on Friday and a case of murder has been registered at the Saket police station,” added the officer.
Police said the reason behind Singh’s death was yet to be ascertained, as his family didn’t receive any ransom calls after he went missing. “There are external injury marks on Singh’s body, suggesting that he was assaulted to death. We are recording the statement of his friends and family members and all angles are being investigated. His body has been sent for post-mortem examination and we are waiting for the report,” the officer added.
