In several residential sectors in Noida, commercial and institutional needs, like markets, schools and hospitals, come at the cost of travelling long distances. Similarly, people working in institutional areas find accommodation far away from work.

However, Noida authority’s town planners claim to have found a solution — mixed-land-use plots. Now, official and commercial activity can be allowed in residential sectors and areas with offices, schools and hospitals can have residential buildings. Such plots will be explored in Noida and chances to find many are bright.

In the case of Greater Noida and Yamuna Expressway areas, which are still undergoing development, there is ample scope for execution of this plan. Development authorities can easily mark ‘mixed-land-use’ plots beforehand.

Confirming the plan, Noida authority’s senior town planner Rajpal Kaushik told HT on Wednesday: “This will help people a great deal. The master plan 2031 has provisions for such modifications”.

“Noida was supposed to be an industrial township as the name New Okhla Industrial Area Development Authority suggests. But over the years, residential, commercial and institutional installations came up too. Now, it is time to break watertight compartments of sectors to make life easier,” a senior official said.

In group housing schemes, there are several facilities such as shops and schools.
