Delhi Police have arrested a sales manager of a multinational company on charges of dowry death following the suicide of his wife two days ago.
Police said Anand Mohan's wife Usha was found hanging at their Malviya Nagar house two days ago.
Mohan works as an area sales manager with an American pharmaceutical firm. On May 7, he had left for Bihar after telling his wife that he was going to remarry as she had failed to arrange Rs 25 lakh as dowry.
"After he left, Usha hanged herself in the house. We got a call on May 12 from one of her neighbours who said Usha was not seen for the past many days and a foul smell was coming from the flat," said a senior police officer.
A police team went to the Malviya Nagar house and forced open the door to find Usha hanging from the ceiling.
"We took details from her house and call Usha's brother in Mumbai. The brother informed us that his sister married Mohan in 2008; it was a love marriage," the officer added.
Usha's family has alleged that just a few months after their wedding Mohan had started asking for dowry. Mohan also used to beat Usha, they told the police.
A case under section 304 B (dowry death) was registered on the complaint of the victim's brother at the Malviya Nagar police station.
Usha was a housewife and had met Mohan in Mumbai.
Police said no suicide note was found near the body. Further investigations in the case are on.
