Three police officers were injured and a Police Control Room van was torched by a mob, after the police tried to stop a fight in a slum cluster in Outer Delhi.
The incident occurred when the police attempted to quell a violent confrontation in outer Delhi's Shahbad Dairy on Wednesday night.
“A family function was underway there when a fight broke out between the guests. We were intimated about it at 8.30pm by area residents when the altercation seemed to be getting out of hand,” said Chhaya Sharma, deputy commissioner of police (outer).
She said a PCR van was dispatched to the spot.
“As soon as our officers tried to intervene between the two groups, men from both sides turned on the officers and asked them to mind their own business. When the officers persisted, they were assaulted,” said a senior police officer.
According to the police, the mob assaulted the driver, gunman and an assistant sub-inspector who were manning the PCR and pelted stones on the vehicle before torching it and pushing into an open drain.
