Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi has embraced IT, and on Thursday he showed he had gone beyond the conventional abbreviation of information technology.

“I have a simple formula: Information Technology (IT) + Indian Talent (IT) = India Tomorrow (IT),” he said through video-conferencing for an event organised by Google.

Addressing a session on Technology in Politics at Google Big Tent Activate Summit 2013 through Google+ Hangout, he urged politicians to adopt technology, which has empowered citizens and ushered in direct democracy in the country. “The political class needs to stop seeing technology as a problem creator.”

He said internet was the new “nukkad” (street corner) where ideas were shared and opinions formed and spread. Modi enjoys huge visibility on social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook.

Nearly 1.3 million people follow Modi on Twitter. In August 2012, before the Gujarat polls, he had interacted with people through Google+ in a session moderated by actor Ajay Devgn.

J&K CM Omar Abdullah, PM Manmohan Singh’s advisor and technocrat Sam Pitroda also spoke at the event.
