The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested two senior Punjab Police officers in the Moga sex scandal case. They have been charged for falsely implicating innocent persons in the sex scandal and then demanding money to let them off the hook.
The two arrested officers are Devinder Singh Garcha and Paramdeep Singh Sandhu. While Garcha was posted as the SP of Moga district, Sandhu was SP (headquarters), Moga.
Sources said the CBI conducted searches at six premises of Garcha and Sandhu at Jalandhar, Chandigarh and Ropar before taking them into custody. The officers were questioned and later arrested. CBI investigations revealed the Moga Police falsely implicated some innocent persons in a rape case.
“They were arrested and sent to jail for monetary, personal and other considerations,” a senior CBI official said. When family members of the victims contacted senior police officers to have their relatives released, they were forced to shell out huge bribes and some of these people were then released by the police.
