One Dalit woman lost her legs and the other barely managed to save herself from coming under a tractor following a failed attempt by a drunk man to molest them last Wednesday.

The nephew of a landlord, Billu, tried to molest the two women, who work in the fields, in Kheri Lohchab village near Narnaund last week.

But the women raised an alarm and cried for help. At this the man got agitated and went to get his tractor to 'teach them a lesson'.

Sushila and Mukesh Devi ran for safety but Sushila fell and her legs were crushed under the tractor's tyres.

Both the women were taken to hospital and later referred to PGI, Rohtak. Mukesh Devi was discharged after treatment but Sushila is still undergoing treatment for serious injuries to the backbone and legs.

Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Hanif Qureshi said, "Billu has been arrested and additional sub inspector Ved Prakash, incharge of police post of the village, has been sent to police lines as punishment for delaying action against the culprit."
