A four-year-old differently abled boy was attacked and killed by a monkey inside his residence in Morta area of Ghaziabad on Thursday afternoon.
The boy was apparently strangulated to death by the simian when he was playing inside the house with his brothers. The boy, identified as Mohan, was killed even before his family members or neighbours could rush to his aid.
The family members of the victim said the incident took place when Mohan and his three brothers -- Golu and Srikant, both 6 years old, and Sohan, 4 years old -- were playing inside their house. Mohan was Sohan’s twin brother and could barely walk, remaining confined to his bed for most of the day.
“The monkey appeared out of nowhere and attacked me and chased my brothers. We all ran outside to save ourselves but Mohan could not. The animal managed to push open the door of the room where Mohan was present. He then grabbed his neck and choked him. I ran out and called my grandmother for help. But to no avail,” Golu said.
During the incident, none of the victim’s family members — Mohan’s father, mother or grandparents — were at home. The boy’s father had gone to see a doctor while his mother was staying at her parent’s house in Delhi. His grandfather was away for work at a nearby brick klin and the child’s grandmother was on her work at a nearby school.
As the neighbours raised an alarm, the victim’s brothers and grandmother rushed to the scene and found Mohan lying dead on his bed.
“His throat bore injury marks and had blood clots. The boy died even before we could rush him to a doctor. I think he could not resist the attack as he was weak.
He had problems using his legs due to some complications since his birth,” Bablu Kumar, the victim’s father, said.
After the incident, the monkey is said to have tried to enter the house three more times but was chased away by angry residents.
“There were cries from the residents to kill the animal but I managed to pacify them. I informed police but our elders refused a post-mortem examination of the dead body,” said the victim’s neighbour Satender Fauji, a retired army man
Mohan’s family hails from Muzaffar Nagar in west Uttar Pradesh and has been staying at Morta for the last 15-16 years.
