The move comes four months after a Delhi Police audit, where the police had asked the northern railways to install more cameras as stations were deemed most vulnerable to terror attacks.

The six major city railway stations - New Delhi, Old Delhi, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Sarai Rohilla, Anand Vihar and Delhi cantonment - handle more than 17 lakh commuters daily.

"All crowded places in the Capital have come under CCTV cover and it has become necessary for us to install more cameras at all major Delhi stations," said a senior railway officer.

In the next phase of the security plan, the northern railways will also be building boundary walls around the station and a two-kilometer track at all sides.

At New Delhi station, 98 more cameras will be installed and Old Delhi station will get 83 more cameras. Forty cameras will be installed at Hazrat Nizamuddin and Anand Vihar station respectively.
