A mother and daughter duo were brutally stabbed to death in their house in Manak Vihar area of west Delhi’s Subhash Garden on Saturday evening. Police said the house had been ransacked and cash and jewellery was found missing from the almirah.
Gurpreet Kaur (30) and Jasmeen (8) were found murdered at the first floor of their house at 4:30pm.
Their family runs a sale and purchase shop from the ground floor of the house. It was a servant who discovered the bodies and informed Kaur’s husband Gurpreet Singh. The couple’s younger daughter Prabhjyot, 2, was asleep when the incident occurred.
The entry into the house had been friendly, police said. However, Kaur’s family members claim the couple did not have any past history of business rivalry or property disputes, thus ruling out the possibility of any motive behind the murder.
“Kaur’s uncle had sent his servant Sanjeev to their house. When he entered the room, he found Kaur and Jasmeen lying in a pool of blood,” V Renganathan, additional CP (west) said. The worth of the missing jewellery and cash is yet to be ascertained.
“They had been living here for the past six years. All these years, they haven’t had a single argument with anyone,” said Gurdeep Singh, the victim’s uncle.
Eyewitnesses claim that the throats of both Kaur and Jasmeen had been slit. Also, there were deep stab wounds all over their bodies.
A case of robbery and murder has been registered at the Subhash Nagar police station and forensic experts were called to collect details from the spot.
