Cutting across party lines, Lok Sabha members on Monday launched an all-out attack against Team Anna for its alleged derogatory language against parliamentarians amid indications that a resolution condemning the remarks could be moved Tuesday.
Team Anna member Arvind Kejriwal, however, remained defiant and said Anna Hazare and his colleagues had not said anything wrong about Parliament that faced a “serious problem of credibility”.
A consensus appeared to be emerging in the Lok Sabha that the House pass a resolution moved by the Speaker against Team Anna for using intemperate language against MPs.
Leader of the Opposition Sushma Swaraj is understood to have discussed the matter with parliamentary affairs minister Pawan Bansal.
Swaraj led the House charge, saying Team Anna’s utterances, during March 25’s token fast by Hazare at Jantar Mantar, against democratic institutions were indirectly inviting dictatorship.
If MPs were “looters, corrupt and rapists” then why did Team Anna send three of its demands to be incorporated in a resolution passed by Parliament, the BJP leader said.
