The Kazmi family's "fight for truth and justice" for over seven months ended with Syed Mohammad Ahmad Kazmi getting bail from the Supreme Court in New Delhi on Friday.

Kazmi, a freelance journalist, was arrested by the Delhi police on March 6 in connection with the attack on an Israeli diplomat's car in the Capital in February this year. Since his arrest, his family has been running from pillar to post to prove his innocence.

His family said they "had to go through a very tough time" in the last eight months but now are a happy lot. "Khuda hamara imtihaan le raha tha jismein hum der se hi sahi par kamyab hue (God was testing us in which we succeeded after a little delay)," said a teary eyed Jahan Ara, Kazmi's wife.

Even though Eid is still some days away, the family went into the celebration mode soon after they got the news.

"My husband was made a scapegoat by the Delhi Police. Today, this has been proved in front of the entire world. We had full faith in our judicial system," she added.

"The first call I made was to my mother who started crying over the phone when I gave her the good news. We are very happy because the truth is out and justice has been finally done. We want to thank the Almighty for giving us power to fight for injustice," Turab said.

Asked if Kazmi ever shared his feelings with them, Shauzab said, "He wanted us to fight for the truth instead of fighting for his release."
