Apprehending trouble from "self-styled moral police forces" on Valentine's Day, the National Commission for Women has asked all the states in the country to ensure that women and girls are not harassed or assaulted by individuals or groups on February 14.
Apprehending trouble from "self-styled moral police forces" on Valentine's Day, the National Commission for Women has asked all the states in the country to ensure that women and girls are not harassed or assaulted by individuals or groups on February 14.
NCW chairperson Girija Vyas has requested all Chief Ministers to kindly instruct the state machinery to be vigilant on the day.
"There should not be any infringement upon the personal freedom of individuals," the NCW said in a release.
The NCW's move assumes significance in the wake of a threat call issued by various outfits, including the Sri Ram Sene, to youngsters to not celebrate Valentine's Day.
Vyas also said the NCW was examining the case of a rape convict who passed civil services examination while serving his sentence.
"NCW is examining the matter to file an appeal in the apex court. NCW has also sought a clarification from DOPT whether such a convicted person is eligible for appointment," the release said.
