The women and Child Development (WCD) ministry rushed a team of senior officials to Mangalore on Sunday morning after allegations of irregularities were leveled by pub woners against the National Commission for Women (NCW), which is conducting an inquiry into the Mangalore pub case.

NCW chairperson Girija Vyas on Saturday had distanced herself from comments of the commission member, Nirmala Venkatesh stating, that the pub can only serve food to guests, not liquor.

Irked at the conduct of Venkatesh in Mangalore, WCD minister Renuka Chowdhury rushed a two-member team, headed by joint secretary Kiran Chadda, to Mangalore on a fact-finding mission. The team will also look into allegations of irregularities leveled by some pub owners against Ventakesh.

Muthalik hospitalised

Sri Rama Sene founder Pramod Muthalik, rearrested on Saturday after being granted bail in the Mangalore pub attack case, has been hospitalised. He was admitted to the jail ward in a district hospital after he complained of not feeling well on Sunday, police said.
