The south Delhi police have arrested a man on Friday for allegedly raping and killing an 11-year-old girl in Mehrauli. Police said twenty-five-year-old Jamal was the victim's neighbour.
The police said he kidnapped the girl on May 16 when the victim had come to his house to watch TV.
The police had found the victim's decomposed body on May 19 from Mandi village in Mehrauli.
The minor's father had filed a missing person's report on May 16. A case of kidnapping was subsequently registered at Fatehpur Beri Police Station. Investigations later pointed towards the victim’s neighbour as the possible suspect in the case.
The victim's mother told the police that the day her daughter went missing she (her daughter) had said she was going to Jamal’s house. The accused was also missing from his house.
During his interrogation the accused told the police that on May 16 he called the minor to his house to watch TV.
He then told her that they (him and the girl) would go to a jungle nearby where he had kept some scrap he had found. He also promised to give her Rs 20 to come along with him. Police said he raped the minor in the jungle.
“The girl tried to raise an alarm and began to cry. She said she would tell her parents about what he did to her. The accused then got scared and strangled her. He later dumped her body at some distance and came back to his house,” said HGS Dhaliwal, deputy commissioner of police (south).
