A 22-year-old Nepalese woman was allegedly gangraped by an autorickshaw driver and his two friends at a house in Mandawali of east Delhi on Saturday, police said.

The woman, who was promised a decent job in a Gulf nation, was reportedly picked up outside Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI).

One of the friends , identified as Avdhesh Kumar, has been arrested.

The victim, a mother of a four-year-old child had been reportedly trafficked from Nepal by an agent and she reached Delhi on July 3, police said.

“She had to catch a flight to a Gulf nation along with the agent identified as Manoj. They however missed the flight. The agent abandoned her at the airport on the pretext of getting fresh tickets and fled the scene,” said a senior police officer on condition of anonymity as he is not authorised to speak to the media.

On Saturday around 2 am, she boarded an autorickshaw outside airport for Nehru Vihar in Mukherjee Nagar.

The auto driver, identified as Vinod Kumar, sensed she was new to the city and instead drove her to Nehru Nagar in Mandawali where he stayed, the police said.

“In the auto, the woman narrated her plight to the accused and said she had nowhere to go. Kumar, taking advantage of the situation, took her to his house where one of his friends, identified as Avdhesh, was also present. They called one more friend to the house. The trio consumed alcohol and repeatedly raped the woman,” said the officer.

Police said the accused took away her handbag containing her passport and wallet.

“The accused had forced the victim to consume alcohol. After reportedly raping her, they confined her in the house and threatened her not to shout for help. She managed to run away from the house where a passerby saw her and informed the police,” said the officer.

Police said the victim was taken to a hospital where rape was confirmed.

“We have registered a case of rape and other sections pertaining to human trafficking,” said OP Mishra, additional DCP (east).
