The New Delhi Railway Station on Wednesday received the National Tourism Award for the Best Tourist-Friendly Railway Station in the country.

Northern Railway’s division railway manager Ashwani Lohani received the award from Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar and actress Priyanka Chopra. The award was given for the station’s development in the areas of passenger amenities and efficiency of operations.

Coincidently, that very day the station had launched battery-operated vehicles to ferry senior citizens and the disabled.

In recent times, the railway station has witnessed a sea change in passenger amenities and related infrastructure. Eliminating cross movements and introduction of pre-paid taxis/autos, a large waiting hall, a third foot overbridge and rebuilding all its platforms have been major improvements. HTC
