Here’s some good news for Delhi residents who have to go to Noida every day: the stretch from sector 37 crossing to Kalindi Kunj will be opened to traffic on Monday.
The traffic department will conduct a review of the stretch on Sunday and then open it for traffic on Monday.
This stretch will provide relief from traffic congestion to residents of sectors 37, 36, 39, 40, 41, 42, 50, 51, 53, 60, 61, 62, 63 and other nearby areas. They will be able to save half-an-hour of driving time.
“Heavy vehicles will not be allowed on the stretch. Only two-wheelers, autos and cars will be allowed to pass through this stretch as work on the underpass below the road is still going on. A flyover and underpass are being built on this stretch,” VK Singh of RITES said on Saturday.
“At present, vehicles coming from sector 62 and Ghaziabad via City Centre have to drive an additional 4 kilometres to reach Kalindi Kunj and cross over to Delhi. This additional distance will be saved from Monday as vehicles will head straight to Kalindi Kunj,” said Singh.
“For people coming from Delhi and headed to sector 44, a U-turn has been provided before the crossing to reach the sector,” said Singh.
“Around 55% work on the flyover and underpass has been completed. Though its projected date of completion is August 2012, we hope to get it operational two months before that,” he said.
A two-way underpass and single-way flyover is under construction at the Golf Course Crossing. While the underpass will be 600 metres long, the flyover will be 750 metres in length.
The total cost of the project was R47 crore in 2007 which has now risen to Rs 70 crore.
