Where’s the jam tonight? Instead of waiting for a traffic update on FM radio, you can now get real-time traffic information from the website: thetrafficpeople.net.
Set up by Shailesh Sinha, whose company has been providing traffic updates to various television and FM radio channels for the last nine years, the website covers all important roads and junctions of Delhi. Besides rush hour traffic information, the site also has updates about religious and political rallies.
Sinha, who calls himself the captain of the 50-reporter team running the website, said the information is updated every five minutes.
“The website has a ticker which provides updated real-time traffic information. During peak hours, people can get a traffic situation projection 30 minutes in advance”
With elections round the corner, political rallies and road shows will become a recurring nuisance in Delhi. Road repair and construction activities also lead to closure of stretches. The website will provide forecasts about possible traffic jams due to such closures and diversions.
“Very few people know that a stretch of Old Rohtak Road, from Azad Market to Sarai Rohilla, will remain closed till April 2. Due to Navratras, there will be heavy traffic around various temples and parked vehicles will also hamper traffic movement. We don’t want motorists to get stuck in traffic snarls.
“This website will make them aware of all such jams and diversions. People can also register on this website to get regular traffic alerts on their mobiles,” said Sinha.
