Newspaper to take disciplinary action against Jarnail Singh

delhi Updated: Apr 07, 2009 20:26 IST

Condemning its scribe's action of throwing a shoe at Home Minister P Chidambaram on Tuesday, the management of Dainik Jagran, a daily Hindi newspaper today said disciplinary action was being initiated against Jarnail Singh.

"The disgraceful action by our special correspondent of flinging a shoe at the Home Minister is highly condemnable. In view of his misdemeanour, we are taking disciplinary action against him," Sanjay Gupta, editor of the newspaper said in a statement in New Delhi.

However, it was not clear what action was being taken against Jarnail Singh.

The daily also distanced itself from the journalist's action stating that it was his "personal matter."

"In no way the newspaper should be held responsible for the incident. Such actions which can spearhead violence or hatred are against the policy and norms of the newspaper," the statement added.
