Display of wealth by an elderly couple tempted their domestic help to murder them at their south Delhi home last month, the police said.
Ashok and Lata Goel were found with multiple stab injuries and throats slit at their bungalow in Niti Bagh on May 26. Aukil Yadav, their newly hired domestic help who was absconding, was arrested from Kolkata on June 13, the police said.
"He told us that cash and jewellery lay open in the house and couldn't resist the temptation," said HGS Dhaliwal, Deputy Commissioner of Police (south).
Aukil's cousin Ghanshyam, who worked at another house nearby and helped him in the crime, led the police to Aukil, said an officer. Together, the two emptied the entire house of all the worthwhile items, even silver plates and spoons.
"We have recovered more than 50 silver glasses, flowerpots, trays, puja plate, gold earrings, necklace and other jewellery from them," said an officer. Aukil allegedly hatched the conspiracy and let Ghanshyam inside the house on May 26, killed the two and made away with the loot, said an officer. Aukil left Delhi but Ghanshyam returned to his employer's house to avoid suspicion and hid their bloodstained clothes and the weapon of crime, the police said.
Aukil, whose police verification form was filled up a day before the murders, found an easy prey in the senior citizens, an officer said.
