Be prepared to brave extended traffic snarls at South Delhi's two busiest traffic intersections — Dhaula Kuan and Outer Ring Road-Rao Tula Ram Marg — in the next few months.

Traffic police officials said traffic volume was high at these two points and ongoing construction has reduced the right of way resulting in pile-up. Till construction is over and barricades are removed, traffic snarls would continue.

“Motorists who can avoid taking these two routes during peak hours should not unnecessarily add to traffic at these points. On Outer Ring Road, traffic coming from five-laned NH-8 has just two lanes for itself while approaching the intersection. At Dhaula Kuan, the road space available is awkward and obstructs smooth traffic flow,” Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) S.N. Shrivastava said.

Dhaula Kuan Crossing and Outer Ring Road-RTR Marg intersection cater to a large number of people commuting between Gurgaon, Dwarka and South and Central Delhi. Those going to the airport also pass through these points.

While the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation is constructing a bridge over Dhaula Kuan for its Airport Express line, the Public Works Department is constructing a flyover at the RTR crossing. There are not many alternative routes also.

“There is no alternative road. The Mahipalpur Road from Vasant Kunj side is equally clogged,” said Shrivastava.
