The Delhi Police on Sunday denied media reports of a recording device being recovered from the office of newly-appointed Anti-Corruption Branch chief MK Meena.
While Delhi Police PRO Rajan Bhagat said no bugging device was found, ACB officials said the object in question was a defective pen recorder which was left behind, among other belongings, by the room's previous occupant.
A DCP-level officer had vacated his room for Meena, whose appointment as the ACB chief escalated a bitter turf-war between L-G Najeeb Jung and the AAP government.
"This is comical… The recorder was broken and old. Meena saw that it was not working and returned it to the officer among his other things," said an ACB officer.
There is no truth to the bugging rumours, said special commissioner of police (law and order) Deepak Mishra.
No inquiry has been launched nor has any case been registered, police said.
