No headway in Delhi businessman's shooting in Ridge area

The police on Monday said that they have made no headway in the killing of a Delhi businessman who was shot dead in the southern Ridge area of the capital on Sunday.

"We are investigating the matter and there is nothing as of now that we can tell, as it will be too early to say anything," Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) S Dash told IANS.

Unidentified assailants shot at Ankit Minocha, a resident of Mehrauli, and four of his friends as their black Santro car was passing by the Buddha Jayanti Park in the southern Ridge area of central Delhi around 1.30 p.m. on Sunday.

Minocha and his friend Mahender and seven associates had gone to Karol Bagh to meet two car dealers, Pushkar and Sushil Arora, who are brothers.

Mahender had given Rs.1 million to the car dealers who allegedly had not returned the money, according to the police.

There were heated arguments between the two sides. On their way back, Minocha stopped near the Buddha Jayanti Park for water. Just then, the assailants who were following them opened fire at Minocha's car.

He was hit by two bullets while Surender, who was also in the car, suffered a bullet hit on his back. They were taken to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, where Minocha was declared brought dead. Surender is undergoing treatment.

A case has been registered and investigations are on.

Police sources said car dealer Pushkar was detained late Sunday and was being interrogated.

Dash, however, refused to confirm or deny whether Pushkar was arrested.
