A man allegedly killed his wife in a south Delhi locality after she refused to give him money to buy liquor, police said on Thursday.

Sudhir was arrested for stabbing his wife to death at their house in Madanpur Khadar on Wednesday.

Police reached the spot after they received a call that a woman named Ruby was lying in a pool of blood at her residence.

"Her throat was slit with a sharp-edged weapon. Meenu, the 13-year-old sister of the deceased, was found weeping along with her sister’s two-year-old son,” a police official said.

She told police that her brother-in-law used to beat up her sister if she refused to give him money to buy liquor.

Sudhir, who is a night-watchman, comes home in the morning and he used to drink regularly, police said, adding that after finishing his duty yesterday, he returned home and demanded money from Ruby but she refused.

"On this, he became furious and went away after abusing her wife and her mother.

After a few minutes, he returned to the house and went upstairs immediately," the official said.

On seeing this, Meenu ran from downstairs and was shocked to see her sister lying on the floor in a pool of blood.

Police said they were able to apprehend the accused within 24 hours.

“Yesterday, he killed her in a fit of rage. He also suspected her fidelity," police said.
