No ‘space’ for women members at civic centre
The women councilors in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) have no space of their own! No, not any property, but a space of their own at the civic headquarters. HT reports.
The women councilors in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) have no space of their own! No, not any property, but a space of their own at the civic headquarters.
“The Town Hall does not have enough space for a facility dedicated to women. We would take up the issue with the commissioner and demand a separate common room for us at the new civic headquarters,” Sarita Chaudhary, deputy chairperson of MCD’s standing committee, told reporters on Tuesday.
The MCD has 98 women councilors, of which 96 were elected from reserved seats (one-third of total 272). The MCD officials are currently engaged in shifting the headquarters from the Town Hall to the 112-metre tall Civic Centre on Jawaharlal Nehru Road.
Chaudhary, a BJP councilor, had also raised the issue earlier but the facility created was neither enough for the numbers nor was it maintained as properly as it could have been.
