Three robbers, who were injured when a security guard fired at them in self-defence, came for treatment to the same hospital where the injured guard was admitted and landed straight into the police's net.

On Tuesday night, the three bike-borne men — Wasim, Mosim and Sher Khan — robbed a security guard who was on his way to work at the DJB office in Tikri village in Narela.

"At 9:30pm, Kamlesh Kumar (38) was going to work at the DJB office. He was intercepted by the three men who took his mobile phone and purse with R1,700 in it and two ATM cards," a senior police officer said.

Police said the three robbers beat him up and fled. But soon after returned with the intention of snatching the guard's double-barrel gun.

"By that time Kumar had loaded his gun and fired two rounds at the robbers in self-defence. They were hit on their legs," the officer added.

"But the three men managed to escape and reached home. When their parents asked about the bullet injuries they said some one opened fire at them. Their parents called the police and they were taken to Raja Harishchand Hospital, where the security guard was also admitted," the officer said.

Kumar identified the three youths, who are from Kurani area of Narela, and told the police. "A police team was already present in the hospital and they were arrested then and there," the officer added.
