‘Nothing can fill the void’

For the past one year, the family of Delhi Police’s special cell inspector Mohan Chand Sharma, who was killed in the encounter in Batla House last year, is waiting for the reward money of Rs 25 lakh promised to them, but in vain.

Your husband was awarded the Ashok Chakra for the Batla House encounter, but the reward money has not reached you yet. Why?

The past one-year has been full of turmoil for us and the apathy of the government is making it worse. We never asked for the money but it was part of the reward. If there is a policy related issue with the money, they should at least tell us.

The encounter was termed as ‘fake’ by some. But the National Human Rights Commission gave it a clean chit. Do you feel vindicated?

I never doubted it, but those who had doubt have finally been silenced.

How has the family been coping with the loss?

He was like a pillar of strength. With my job, I might be providing a financial stability to the family, but nothing can fill the emotional void.
