People residing in unauthorised colonies can now legally carry out repair work and alterations in their houses.
Coming to the rescue of lakhs of property owners in the city, the government has constituted a Special Task Force (STF) under the chairmanship of the SDM. The decision of forming an STF has been taken to keep a check on mushrooming illegal construction in these colonies, said urban development minister Raj Kumar Chauhan in the Delhi Assembly on Thursday.
There are a total of 1,639 unauthorised colonies waiting to get regularised where MLAs alleged that property owners have to bribe police officials to get repair work done.
"The Lt Governor has given his approval and formal orders will be given within two days' time. Since building bye-laws have not been implemented in these colonies, the SDM will have the right to grant permission for repair or maintenance work legally," Chauhan said.
The STF would have members from the Delhi police, MCD, PWD and the DDA. The owners of these colonies would have to furnish photographs as proof for carrying out alterations and repair work. The STF will also keep a check on the properties where illegal construction have been carried out.
"The orders will be issued soon but it will take some time to implement them properly. If there are some shortcomings after the orders are examined, it should be conveyed to us and we will include it in the policy," said chief minister Sheila Dikshit.
Chauhan added that carrying out repair work in these unauthorised colonies had been stopped completely earlier.
Meanwhile, almost BJP MLAs were marshalled out of the Delhi Assembly after they disrupted proceedings demanding Dikshit's resignation, following media reports which claimed that a probe committee had blamed her for irregularities in organising the CWG.
The opposition MLAs created ruckus in the Assembly due to which speaker Yoganand Shastri ordered eviction of 22 MLAs from the House. Though leader of opposition VK Malhotra and senior BJP leader Jagdish Mukhi were not evicted, but they staged a walk-out from the House.
