The police on Monday arrested Anil Kale (24), the man who shot NRI businessman K.T. Shameer. Shameer (39) was robbed and killed after he boarded a taxi outside the domestic terminal of the IGI airport a few days ago. The other two accused, Manish Singh and Monu Singh, were arrested on Sunday.
“Kale shot Shameer. We recovered the country-made weapon used in the crime, two mobile phones and Rs 1.56 lakh the accused withdrew from the two debit cards of Shameer,” said Sanjay Kumar, DCP (airport). Kale was arrested from the Mahipalpur bus stand.
On Tuesday Amulya Patnaik, Jt CP (operations), visited the IGI airport and convened a meeting with airport operator DIAL and CISF officials. “We asked them to increase public awareness about pre-paid taxis through bright display boards and regular announcements,” said Patnaik.
Shameer, a resident of Saudi Arabia, never wanted to take a flight to Delhi. He arrived in Mumbai on September 27 and went to Ahmedabad for a business trip. He booked tickets for October 10 in the Rajdhani Express. “His name was in the waiting list and he had to meet a business associate in Ludhiana on October 11. So, he decided to take a flight to Delhi. We wish his tickets were confirmed,” said Mohammad Shahid, Shameer’s elder brother.
Shameer’s wife Wahida and four sons — Zamil, Zayed, Zidan and Zanid — have arrived in India.
