Snubbed by a 24-year-old woman he was obsessed with, a 16-year-old teenager killed the woman's 4-year-old son, police said on Friday.

The teenager wanted to have a physical relationship with the woman. Police said the 'jilted’ lover stabbed the boy more than 30 times with a pair of scissors.

The woman, who is also the tenant of the accused, told the police that the juvenile had threatened to kill all her three children if she didn't fulfil his illegitimate desire.

The shocking incident took place in the wee hours of Friday in central Delhi's Nabi Karim area. The victim has been identified as Abhishek and he lived with his parents and two siblings on the third floor of the building owned by the father of the accused teenager. Police have apprehended the teenager and produced him before the juvenile justice board, which sent him to an observation home.

A senior police officer said the matter came to light around 3.30am on Friday after the woman found her son in a pool of blood inside the house. She had gone to the Nabi Karim police station with her other two children to resolve a matter in which the police had picked up her husband on a suspicion that he has torched a scooter parked in their lane. She had left behind her son because he was sleeping.

"Around 12.30am, we received a call regarding a scooter being set on fire. On the basis of the allegations of the scooter owner, we picked up the woman's husband for questioning. The woman later came to the police station with her two children and aunt," said the senior officer.

At around 3.30am, the officer said, the woman got back to her house only to find her son Abhishek on the bed in a pool of blood. The boy was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead.

On inquiry, the woman told police about the threats from her landlord's son.

"We apprehended the boy and during interrogation he confessed to the crime," added the officer.
