A minor fire broke out in a room situated on the second floor of Vikas Minar, housing the offices of the Delhi Development Authority and other government departments, at ITO in central Delhi on Friday afternoon.
Police said no causality was reported from the blaze, as the employees had gone out for lunch when the fire broke out in the building.
A call was made to fire department at 1:10 pm. "The fire engulfed the second floor which houses offices of four departments — forest, SC/ST, disaster management and home guard. As many as 18 fire tenders were rushed to the spot, which took two hours to douse the fire," said a fire service officer.
All the files were gutted in the fire and the staff was asked to join duty on Monday.
The reason behind the fire is yet to be ascertained but sources said the incident occurred when an air-conditioner in the second-floor room of an officer caught fire.
Vikas Minar, around which several important buildings are situated including the income tax office and the police headquarters, had caught fire in December 2005 too.
But there were no casualties at that time.
