One person was killed and nine others grievously injured in three separate road accidents reported from south and south-east Delhi on Sunday. In one of the accidents, a French national was involved.

"The French national has been identified as MJ Willard (41). He was arrested this afternoon after he ran over a road-dweller in Vasant Vihar at 4 pm," said a senior police officer on condition of anonymity.

The police identified the victim as Tony (55), a street-dweller who used to eke a living by washing cars and sleeping on the road.

He was crossing the road when the accident took place.

"Tony was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead. The post-mortem will be conducted tomorrow," the officer said.

An executive at a French bank in Greater Kailash Part I, Willard resides at Lajpat Nagar. "He has been booked for rash and negligent driving and is being questioned. However, he is likely to be given bail," the officer added.

In another accident, seven people were injured when a speeding Tata Safari hit three different vehicles after the driver lost control of the vehicle, while descending the Modi Mill flyover in southeast Delhi.

"Surender Sharma, a businessman, lost control of his vehicle after ramming into a divider. He then drove his vehicle into an auto rickshaw, injuring its three occupants. Then, he hit a motorcycle and injured three more people, before hitting another two-wheeler and injuring its rider," said an officer.

While the auto rickshaw occupants have been identified as Harish, Dheeraj and Munna, the bikers’ names are as Thomas, Suresh and Sanjay. The motorist has been identified as Shakir.

A resident of Julaina village, Sharma has been arrested for rash and negligent driving.

The third accident took place in Kalkaji around 1:30 am, when Naveen and Manish were returning home after offering puja at the Chhatarpur temple, as part of the navratri celebrations.

"They were returning home to Shahdara, when their motorcycle was hit by a Ford Ikon car, that was speeding along, on the wrong side of the road," the officer said.

Police said the car was being driven by one Saurabh, who claimed to be a lawyer's employee. Saurabh has been arrested and a case has been registered.
