One person was killed and another critically injured when a speeding car allegedly driven by a drunken youth hit them while they were sleeping on a footpath in South Delhi on Saturday morning, police said.
The youth, identified as 22-year-old Manjeet, was under the influence of alcohol when he rammed the car into the footpath in the Nizammuddin area at around 02:20 a.M. Killing one labourer on the spot and injuring another, they said.
Manjeet, a resident of Haryana, was arrested and the car was impounded, they said, adding a case was registered against him.
The injured was taken to the AIIMS trauma centre and the body of another labourer was sent for postmortem, they said.
Manjeet was accompanied by his friend when the incident took place, they said, adding his friend was being interrogated.
Manjeet's blood sample was sent for the alcohol test.
Further investigations in the case are on, they added.
