Only one displaced Kashmiri Pandit family has returned to the Valley so far, the government told Parliament on Tuesday. “One family has returned to the Valley,” minister of state for home RPN Singh said in a written reply in Lok Sabha when he was asked about the approximate number of migrant families who have returned to the Valley so far.
The total amount disbursed by Jammu and Kashmir government, as part of ex-gratia relief to Kashmiri migrants, is Rs 44.77 lakh for a period between 2010-13, he said.
“No loan has been disbursed to Kashmiri migrants during the last three years,” Singh said, adding the total number of Kashmiri migrants staying in camps at various locations in Jammu is 4,522.
“A comprehensive package of Rs 1618.40 crore was announced by the Prime Minister in April 2008 for return and rehabilitation of Kashmiri migrants. The package includes assistance towards housing, transit accommodation, employment/continuation of cash relief, etc.,” Singh added.
