Exploiting unsuspecting female foreigner visitors — both sexually and otherwise — had become his full-time profession shortly after 23-year-old Yasir Atlaf came to the capital in 2005, police said.
“Atlaf and his associate Omar Baktoo used to befriend female foreign visitors in the garb of government-approved tour guides-cum-travel agents, lure them to their home town Srinagar, confiscate their passports so they could not leave the country, seduce them and blackmail them for a living,” said a senior police officer.
Six months after they were systematically victimized, two Dutch nationals called Atlaf and Baktoo's bluff on Friday.
“We arrested Atlaf at the instance of the two Dutch nationals after they recognized his makeshift office in Connaught Place,” said Shankar Dash additional CP (New Delhi).
According to police, Eve De Canne (24) and Milly (23) (names changed) from the Netherlands had resumed their tour of Southeast Asia after being robbed of more than Rs 1 lakh and raped more than 16 times.
“In addition to threatening them with dire consequences, Atlaf and Baktoo had confiscated the Dutch duo's passports.”
“Whenever the girls expressed their disgust or expressed their desire to cut their journey short, the men would tell them that the girls were in their country; that the whole city's police was in their pocket and they could get them arrested under false charges whenever they wished.”
According to police, the Kashmiri duo had victimised a female Moroccan client in a similar fashion six months ago.
“They followed the same procedure with her. Now the woman, whose passport these men have confiscated, is trapped in the country and putting up at a ramshackle rented premises in south Delhi's Jungpura.”
