Over 22,000 cases are pending before various Benches of Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) with its Principal Bench in the national capital topping the list with 3,299.
A total of 22,372 cases were pending this year till September 30 before various Benches of CAT, Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions Prithviraj Chavan informed Lok Sabha on Wednesday.
The Allahabad Bench of CAT, with 2,949 pending cases follows the Principal Bench in the list. Kolkata (2,794) and Mumbai (1,807) are the other Benches with larger number of pending cases.
This year till September 30, 18,075 cases were filed with various Benches of CAT while in 2008, the number was 18,287 for the whole year.
The total number of cases disposed off till September 30, 2009 is 17,415 while last year, total of 20,352 cases were settled.
On the steps taken by the government to clear backlog of cases, the Minister said monthly report is called for from all the Benches of the CAT and the rate of disposal is personally monitored by its Chairman.
